Wayfinder

A small file manager written in Odin for Linux x86_64. Currently an early graphical browser built with SDL3 and microui; a terminal interface is planned.

Features include directory navigation, live selection search, a resizable metadata sidebar, hidden-file toggling, symlink activation, and automatic refresh via inotify. Regular files open through gio open; executable binaries launch directly. File modification operations are not yet implemented.

Build and run

Requires Odin, SDL3, SDL3_ttf, libmagic with its magic database, and gio from GLib. The musdl and libmagic bindings are included in the repository; the font is embedded.

From the repository directory:

odin build . -vet
./wayfinder

Wayfinder starts in the directory it was launched from. The path field accepts absolute and relative paths, including ~ and ~/….

Controls

Keyboard shortcuts apply outside text editing.

Input	Action
j / k	Move selection down / up, wrapping at either end
Enter	Open the selected file or directory; .. goes up
/	Start live search without filtering the listing
Enter / Escape in search	Accept / cancel search
Ctrl+h	Toggle hidden files and directories
Backtick	Go home
i	Focus the path field; Enter navigates
q	Quit

Click to select, double-click directories to navigate, and drag the sidebar divider to resize it. Search and selection are preserved during automatic refresh when valid.
